There are mistakes you know you're making — and mistakes you can't even see, but that cost your website sales every single day. After auditing more than 40 websites of Panamanian businesses, we identified five that come up every time. The good news: all five can be fixed in less than a day.

1. A vague hero: you talk about yourself, not your customer

It's the most common mistake. The hero says "We are a company with 15 years of experience committed to excellence." Your customer can't tell what you sell in 3 seconds. Gone.

Fix: rewrite the headline using the format "I help [specific audience] achieve [desired result] without [common friction]". It works because it triggers the personal relevance bias.

Before:

"Welcome to our website — we're digital marketing specialists."

After:

"We help Panamanian businesses triple their online sales without hiring a corporate agency."

2. CTAs that say "Submit" or "More information"

Every word in a CTA is a mini contract. "Submit" sounds risky (what will they do with my data?). "More information" sounds like effort. Both close doors.

Fix: use CTAs that describe the immediate benefit, not the technical action. The golden rule: a CTA should be able to complete the sentence "I want ___."

  • ❌ Submit → ✓ Get my quote
  • ❌ More information → ✓ See how it works
  • ❌ Subscribe → ✓ Send me the first tip

3. Too many options (choice paralysis)

If your homepage offers 12 different services, no visitor picks one. It's the classic "paradox of choice" described by Barry Schwartz. Faced with too many equivalent options, the brain prefers not to decide.

Fix: group services into 3 visible categories, max. If you have more, tuck them behind a "See all" or create a clear hierarchy (core service vs. add-ons).

4. Missing social proof at the critical moment

Testimonials at the bottom of the page are nice-to-have. But social proof has to show up right before the main CTA. That's the moment the brain asks, "does this work for someone like me?"

Fix: add a mini testimonial (1 line + name + role) directly below the hero CTA. If you have numbers (customers served, rating, years in business), add them. Social validation neutralizes perceived risk.

5. Load times over 3 seconds

For every extra second of load time you lose around 7% of conversions. Heavy images, non-deferred scripts, fonts without display: swap. Your website has to feel instant.

Quick fix:

  1. Compress images to WebP (TinyPNG or Squoosh).
  2. Add loading="lazy" to every image below the fold.
  3. Move scripts to defer or async.
  4. Use font-display: swap on your web fonts.

Then run your site through PageSpeed Insights. Aim for a score > 90 on mobile.

Bonus: the mistake almost nobody sees

Your website has to load well on your customer's phone, not on your MacBook. Mandatory test: grab a mid-range Android on 4G and open your own website. If you get impatient, your customer has already closed the tab.

Conclusion

Neuromarketing isn't magic: it's brain patterns turned into a checklist. If you fix these five mistakes, you should see your conversion rate climb between 30% and 90% in the first 4 weeks. That's not an exaggeration — it's what we see in every audit.

And if you'd like us to do it for you, let's talk. The first 30 minutes are free — and sometimes that's all you need.
