A business Instagram bio should say in one line what you sell and who it's for, give one reason to choose you and end with a clear action, like "Order on WhatsApp". You have 150 characters: not enough to tell your story, but enough for a first-time visitor to know they're in the right place.

Most people decide in seconds whether to follow or leave. If your bio says "Welcome to my world ✨", they leave. If it says "Custom cakes in Panama City · Order 3 days ahead · Message us 👇", they know everything they need.

What parts should a business Instagram bio have?

A bio that brings in messages has five pieces. Not all of them go in the 150-character text: the name and the link have their own fields.

  1. A Name field that says what you do. It's different from your @ and it shows up in Instagram search. "Sweet Ana | Custom cakes" can be found; "Sweet Ana" only by people who already know you.
  2. What you sell and who it's for. One specific line: "Acrylic and gel nails for brides and events".
  3. One reason to choose you. Something only you can say: "Same-day delivery", "300+ happy clients", "No preservatives". If you don't have a number, use a fact you can back up, never a made-up one.
  4. Where you are or where you deliver. "Downtown and West side", "Shipping nationwide".
  5. One call to action. "Order on WhatsApp 👇", "Book at the link". One, not three.

What link should go in your bio?

Instagram allows up to 5 links on your profile, but the first one gets the most taps. Put it where the sale happens:

  • If you sell on WhatsApp: a direct link to your chat (wa.me/...) with a pre-filled message like "Hi, I'd like to order".
  • If you have several priced products: a catalog where customers pick and you get the order ready to confirm. You can build one free with the Precio Justo app.
  • If you book appointments: the link to your calendar.
  • If you have several things to show: a links page with 3 or 4 options, not 12.

What goes in your story highlights?

Highlights are the second half of your bio: what people look at right after reading it. Four or five are enough: Prices or menu, How to order, Work or reviews, Shipping and FAQ. Use covers in the same color and style so the profile looks tidy, and keep names to one or two words.

Mistakes that stop people from messaging you

  • Nice phrases with no information. "Making your dreams come true" doesn't say what you sell.
  • Strings of emojis. One or two help break up the text; ten make it unreadable.
  • Three calls to action. "Message me, visit the site and follow me on TikTok" ends up as none.
  • A link that doesn't lead to buying. If the link is your Facebook profile, you lost the tap.
  • Not saying where you are. If you only deliver to one area, say so before people from another one write in.

Review your bio whenever something important changes: a new product, a different delivery area, new hours. And if you want the account to work on its own, see how we do it in social media management.

Frequently asked questions

150 characters. The Name field and the link are separate and don't count toward those 150.

Only a starting price if it helps filter, like "Packages from USD 150". The full list works better in a highlight or a linked catalog.

Your brand plus what you do, for example "Sweet Ana | Custom cakes". That field shows up in Instagram search, so the word people search for should be there.

When something the customer needs to know changes: products, delivery area, hours or how to order. No need to change it every week.

Wrapping up

A good bio isn't creative, it's clear: what you sell, who it's for, why you and what to do next, in 150 characters, with a link that leads to buying.

And after the bio? Sell on Instagram in 30 Days with AI gives you the full plan to turn those messages into sales, and the Nova Kit has 80 Canva templates, highlight covers included.
